What have you told yourself today?
Have you reminded yourself of just how special you are?
Of how you are more than capable of achieving those dreams that call out to you?
Or have you started the day thinking, “Argh! No, I just can’t do it”?
Remember that your thoughts become your reality.
The inner monologues we have, the stories we tell ourselves, even those random thoughts that sometimes pop out of nowhere all influence the type of emotions we feel. And as a result, those emotions have a direct impact on the sort of action we take.
For example, if Susan repeatedly thinks, “There’s no way I’m going to land that promotion at work. Just no way,” she will most likely feel dejected and that she isn’t quite “good enough.” Because of those feelings she will shrink, minimize her abilities, and may not put her best foot forward, jeopardizing her chances of getting that promotion.
That is why it is so important to become more aware of the type of thoughts we have.
Yes, it can certainly be challenging. Often, we function on autopilot and fall into an unconscious habit of thinking “negative” or “unhelpful” thoughts.
And sometimes we tend to berate ourselves for thinking these negative thoughts, which leads to more negative thoughts. It can so easily become an endless circle of, you guessed it…negative thoughts.
I can’t tell you that the goal is to always think positive thoughts and never negative ones because that just isn’t possible—it is human nature to have both.
However, I can tell you that it is possible to learn how to move those unconscious “negative” thoughts (weeds) to the conscious mind as soon as they pop up, to become aware of them so that they can be replaced with more “positive” or “helpful” thoughts (flowers).
I want you to know that I understand.
I understand how difficult it can be to break through those unhealthy thought patterns that keep sprouting weeds of fear, guilt, shame, and self-doubt.
I understand how you can feel stuck, barricaded within the confines of your own mind.
But I also understand that there is a little voice inside telling you that yes, life can be fruitful, life can be purposeful, life can be everything you want it to be.
I want you to listen to that voice no matter how slight it may be right now.
There IS a way forward to the life you want to live.
Are you ready to put in the work to have it?
Are you willing to adapt your mindset to one that will help you live your best life?
